Treatment of cleft

The most important part of any cleft treatment is a high-quality surgery, which should take place as soon as possible after birth. So act now!

If the child has both cleft lip and cleft palate, two surgeries are needed: The first surgery (for the cleft lip) at 4 to 6 months of age, the second surgery (for the cleft palate) at 12 months of age. Depending on the size and type of the cleft(s), more treatments, such as additional surgeries during childhood and adolescence, might be necessary. Further treatments, like dental or orthodontic treatment or speech therapy are often required. We also offer these treatments, an approach we call "comprehensive cleft care", and our experts will help you through the process, telling you what to expect and how to proceed.

For detailed information about the treatment please contact our cleft teams. This website provides introductory information only!
